From the Stacks: Highlights of the National Library Exhibition

Today's post is to talk about an exhibition that's currently being held at the National Library in Bugis!

It's called "From the Stacks: Highlights of the National Library", and showcases the best of the library's many years of collections!

They range from WWII comics, the Malaya/Singapore newspapers, maps of harbours, and my personal favourite: the letters of Raffles.

Here are some pics! (They're all from the letters of Raffles section. I'm bias as always)

I highly recommend a visit! It runs till 28 August, so lots of time to go! In fact, I'm definitely going back again!

Mid month update on InCoWriMo

(This post is dedicated to my dear friends who indulge me in my letter writing hobby. Thank you for indulging a Luddite!)

Hi all,

It's just over the midway mark of February, and I'm happy to say I've finished this year's challenge already!

Yes I know it's early, because I tweaked the rules a little.

I have indeed written 29 different pieces and delivered them, but many of these 29 were written early, in Jan.

Well, I guess you could call it cheating yes, because I'm lazy to go out everyday to mail a piece. Can't really blame me for that now, can ya :P

Still, I'm going to continue writing and replying letters throughout the month! It's nice to see letters in the mailbox. I'm happy for having friends who take the effort to write! I'm thankful for these letters, so keep them coming! :D

International Correspondence Writing Month (InCoWriMo)

InCoWriMo is almost upon us! I am excited for it :D

InCoWriMo lasts for the whole of February and challenges one to handwrite and deliver a card, note, postcard or letter to someone every day of February.

And because this is a leap year, we get one extra day and one extra piece ;)

It's my third year doing this!

Ain't easy, this InCoWriMo, but hey, it's a reason to break out my pens and inks so... Challenge accepted!

If anyone reading this would like a letter, please leave me a comment with a means of contacting you! I will try to write back, especially if you're local! :)

Have fun doing InCoWriMo! I know I will :)

Eight or Nine Wise Words about Letter Writing

Today's post is on a 1890 book written by Lewis Carroll (author of Alice in Wonderland). (It'll be short, because I'll rather you, dear reader, spend the time reading his book) In this book, he talks about letter writing and stamps.

A mixture of interesting examples and beautiful language, it brought a smile to my face as I could relate to the things he said! Yes, a century on and the issues he raised still happen today!

A link to the book itself: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/38065/38065-h/38065-h.htm

PS. I realised how I haven't ever posted on letter writing and history stuff when I love them both, so perhaps this will be the first post of many more to come :D
